DJ DAVE LUBIN
Dave Lubin started DJ’ing back in 1995 upon his first trip to Ibiza where he quickly made a name for himself with his tough underground house beats and infectious energy, it was no wonder why he was picked up by Pacha where he held his first residency, after this successful initiation into the house music fraternity, Dave returned back to London with a new arsenal of beats from his US counterparts.
It was back in London where Dave started to DJ for Ministry of Sound, back when Ministry was Rulin’ Saturday nights and was the only place to be in London come 3am. Dave was soon offered a residency and became one of the youngest regulars behind the decks. Dave was also asked to launch Ministry Radio on Kiss FM, and toured the UK playing alongside David Morales, Erick Morillo, CJ Mackintosh and Tony Humphries to name but a few, it was here where Dave really learned the art of DJ’ing on vinyl, and still speaks of as one of the highlights of his career to date. Dave was also asked to play a guest spot on Radio 1 for Danny Rampling's Love Groove Dance Party which helped to open Dave’s skills to a much wider audience, and lead to Dave becoming a regular for Miss Moneypenny’s and Hush in Birmingham, both pivotal clubs of those times.
Dave then decided to move back to Ibiza and has spent every summer there since 1999, and he kick started his Ibiza journey off with a new residency for Radio 1 at Eden, he also played for Manumission at Privilege, formerly Ku, Cream at Amnesia and of course returned for Ministry of Sound at Pacha which became one of the islands top nights… ’There’s definitely a strong magnetic pull that keeps drawing me back to this incredible island’ Dave was quoted as saying in an interview for DMC.
In 2008 Dave launched his own night back in London called Chosen, together with London’s No 1 host Adam Newsome, it was at Chosen where Dave grew a reputation for his extended 8 hour sets, rocking from open til close, on 4 decks.. Chosen ran successfully for 5 years, Dave invited guests including Kenny Carpenter and his old friend CJ Mackintosh to join him behind the decks, creating a night that will not be forgotten amongst London’s clubbing fraternity.
In more recent years, Dave created clubbing and lifestyle brand Mental Genius, back in 2013 to be precise, launching at Soho House in London and then beginning a new residency in Ibiza at Sankeys where Dave successfully promoted his own night drawing on guests such as Flashmob, Tuccillo and Eli & Fur, Dave could be found behind the decks in that infamous basement week after week, delivering the goods, it was a 3 year residency that Dave looks back on proudly.
Cut to 2021 and Dave of course plans to continue his bespoke Mental Genius nights, but is without a doubt looking forward to continuing his mission to educate the next generation of DJ’s with his documentary ‘Music Saved My Life’ and of course his pre documentary project ‘The Art of Beats’ where Dave is joined by the legendary producer Arthur Baker & 4 x World Scratch Champion DJ Prime Cuts from The Scratch Perverts, they are teaming up to push musical boundaries with a hybrid DJ set up powered by Native Instruments.. Definitely one to watch. The beat goes on….
